7th BikeAid to pedal for AIDS services on August 24

BikeAid '96, a benefit for the Columbus AIDS Task Force, will take off Saturday, August 24 at 9 am, with an expected 200 cyclists raising money for critical funding for AIDS services and education.

Hosted by the Capital City Cyclists Club, the seventh annual bike tour will bring local funding to over 800 clients assisted by the Task Force, and a targeted 38,000 people in HIV/ AIDS educational programs.

Registration and check in for the tour is at 7:30 am at Jonathan Alder High School, 6440 KilburyHuber Rd., in Plain City.

The Columbus AIDS Task Force provides information and referral services to people living with HIV/AIDS, operates the Ohio AIDS Hotline, and conducts prevention education programs throughout Central Ohio.

Boy Toy Productions is currently searching for sponsors and contestants for its annual Mr. Great Lakes Drummer Contest, to be held in Columbus the weekend of August 23 and 24.

Representatives from most of the region are encouraged to participate so the best possible candidate can represent the area at the International Mr. Drummer Contest in September.

The calendar of events for the regional contest includes a Meet the Contestants Night at Tradewinds II, a barbecue and beer bust at Outland, the contest at Herby's Tavern, and a Drummer Tough Customer Party at IMRU.

The host hotel is the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Columbus, with a block of rooms reserved for the rate of $69 plus tax per night for a single or double. When phoning reservations (614-228-3200), be sure to mention the Mr. Drummer Contest.

The concerts occur at a time when two of the group's members, Marcia Steele and Lynn Haney, are celebrating their fifth anniversary as a couple. The women, who were joined in a commitment ceremony in New York City, are the group's lead singersongwriter-guitarists, and founded Delicate Balance in 1991.

The concerts are a preview for the group's upcoming CD, to be released in October, but will also feature covers of Billie Holliday and Melissa Etheridge songs.

Other concerts scheduled include the Akron Art Museum August 8, and August 15, 22 and 29, all at Barbary Lane. Shows are from 9 pm to 1 am, with no cover charge.

Barbary Lane, open since March 1, is located at 2619 Noble Rd, just east of Monticello in Cleveland Heights.

HIV CLINICAL TRIAL

protease inhibitor + nevirapine (VIRAMUNE®)

HIV+ individuals between the ages of 18 and 65 are needed to participate in a research study that will evaluate a protease inhibitor when taken alone and in combination with nevirapine (VIRAMUNE®). Nevirapine is the first FDA-approved medication for HIV infection that belongs to the unique class of anti-HIV drugs known as non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Participants must have a CD4 count between 200 and 500 and cannot be currently undergoing treatment for an active infection. Viral load and CD4 testing will be performed

at no cost to those who qualify

All study medications, laboratory tests and a comprehensive medical evaluation are provided

at no cost to those who qualify

Participants will be compensated up to $900

This 49 day study will be conducted at our Pittsburgh location. An overnight stay at our testing facility is required on two occasions during the course of the study. Transportation to Pittsburgh will be provided.
